Clapsticks, also called bimli or blimi, have been played by the Aboriginal people of northern Australia for thousands of years.

A type of clapstick called a boomerang clapstick can be played either by shaking it, or by hitting the two sticks together like a standard clapstick. Clapsticks usually accompany didjeridus.
